Yes, it really is this colorful! Vernazza is one of the charming villages found in the Cinque Terre, Italy. From here, you can follow the walking trail to the other 4 villages, but try to come on a weekday - it is very popular with Italians out for a Sunday excursion!

During the month of June, 2006, I have some of my very favorite photos on display from our travels last year. Wallingford is a great place to enjoy art, a cup of java, and a stroll along the pedestrian-friendly street of 45th Ave North.
LIght casts such a rich, evocative quality to life, especially the light of the Mediterranean.
The interplay of shadows and light, and the ephemeral nature of both, are the common thread in these photos, even more so than the joy of travel. I hope you'll enjoy them.

Bejeweled Building on the Grand Canal

Venice was truly a dream come true for me. From the moment we stepped out of the train station, this stunning city was even more amazing than I imagined! This is our favorite building on the Grand Canal, sparkling in the afternoon as if set with jewels. 

Barrio Ideal: Rain Puddle

On an afternoon walk around our "ideal" neighborhood in Valencia, I discovered this wonderful image: the refection of one of the rose-colored apartment buildings in a puddle.
By the end of our stay, the puddle had long vanished in the heat, and the empty lot had been paved. 

Pigeon Wing

One afternoon in Valencia, I rode my bike to La Plaza de la Virgen, to photograph children feeding the pigeons. The birds themselves cast facinating shadows upon the rose-colored marble floor. And one little girl, dressed as if she were a doll herself, posed in some remarkable ways. These three are some of my very favorite photos, saying so much about the spirit of the moment, and of the sense of place we felt so strongly in Valencia. 

Angel de Azul

Amazingly, the pigeons knew exactly when to spread their wings to capture evocative poses. Here the small girl appears to be an angel. 

Sacred Pigeon

Reminiscent of religious paintings of the Holy Spirit, a white pigeon flutters directly over the head of the little girl. This photo is another in the series taken in la Plaza de la Virgen, Valencia Spain.

Blooming for only a few weeks in the spring, these Calla Lillies in Valencia make me believe in perfection, however ephemeral.

Moorish influences are found throughout southern Portugal and Spain. This beautiful archway is part of the castle overlooking Lisbon.
